Specialized Tarmac SL4 / 2012– a hunger to fly!
This is my bike. Its a Specialized S-WORKS SL4 tarmac with a SRAM gearset. It has a non-standard compact SRAM ring and cassette – 50/34 28/11 everything else is as spec.
From December 1 to January 31 I clocked up about 2000km on my new 2012 Specialized Tamac SL4.
The Tarmac is running a SRAM Red gearset which was radically different to the Ultegra gearset I had on the 2010 Specialised Roubaix Expert.
It took a little while to get used to and then I discovered it needed a bit of work to tune the gear change. Since that’s been done I’ve had no problem with the gear change. Although I’ve had a continual problem with a noise emanating from the crank. A click kind of sound. Its got louder and I’ll have to get the mechanic at TotalRush to have a look at it.
The bike has great speed and its really fantastic when its wound up and flying down the roads I ride. I love its super light weight and hunger too fly!
I’ve got a few big rides coming up and I’ll really see how it goes in those events.
Update on June 7, 2012
I’ve clocked over five and a half thousand Kms on the Tarmac now and I love that bike! I’ve replaced the chain and done a few tyres but its been good. It has taken awhile to get used to the SRAM gearset but I think I’ve mastered it with the help of Paul the senior mechanic at TotalRush.
He suggested replacing the front derailleur clamp. It had a slick carbon model but he and a few others I’d met said get the stiffer steel model. After some kms of getting the right feel I really appreciate the SRAM now. Its faster and more precise than the Shimano Ultegra I have on the Roubaix. I enjoy it now, I just had the persevere a bit and then it came good.
The bike is light and eats corners and speed. Its a treat to ride.
